Macau Special Olympics

Since its establishment in 1987, Macau Special Olympics (MSO) has been dedicated to providing sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children & adults with intellectual disabilities. In 1996, Social Services sections “MSO Vocational training Center for People with Mental Retardation", "MSO Employment Service for People with Intellectual Disabilities Center" & "Ngai Chun Se Enterprise” of our Macau Special Olympics were launching on providing vocational rehabilitation services for the people with intellectual disabilities. Our trainings have helped them gain self-confidence and learn necessary working and social skills that empower them to be more accepted. Providing them the employability they need as well as engaging them in various sectors of referrals in the job market.

Macau Special Olympics sports services have been developed over 30 years while the development of our vocational rehabilitation services for over 20 years. In recent years, we have made more positive developments in special education services provided in the schools helping the students with special education needs (SEN) and the students in the special education classes. After-school supports, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, child physiotherapy services are available and being provided by MSO to the schools in Macau. To make our service more complete than any NGO could ever had provided in Macau for the students with ANY special education needs, we have a team of Experts being the Resource teachers to give supports to the primary teachers & teachers for the students with SEN. Such supports can improve the abilities of these special groups of students to be adapted in the schools.

In addition, the Special Olympics has even actively cooperated with the Social Welfare Bureau in the arts and social and recreational activities programs for the people with intellectual disabilities. The development of Family Support Network (FSN), Community Support Pilot Program, Youth Unified Programs and a few more programs & projects to promote and encourage the people with intellectual disabilities & their families to fight for their legitimate rights and interests of equality, to promote the social acceptance and inclusion for better understanding and care for them in the Macau society.

By providing the variety of services on different paths for the people with intellectual disabilities, we would like to see them showing their abilities in finding their own social roles and identities with self-confidence and self-reliance in the community. For being established for almost 30 years in Macau, Macau Special Olympics has been developing into a non-profit organization with a comprehensive and variety of rehabilitation services & care fulfilling the needs of the people with intellectual disabilities at their different life stages & aspects of life.
